Mini-Certificates

CirclesThese four certificates are designed to provide more specificfocus on certain career paths. Digital Imaging, iMedia, Print, and Page Layout each provide a unique set of skills intended to enhance a student's understanding of those fields. Part-time students are welcome to sign up for any course aftermeeting the prerequisite requirements. Declared degree pursuit is notrequired.

iMedia Certificate

iMedia LogoThe iMedia Certificate combines five courses designed to give students entry-level skills in the creation of cross-media publication for print, web, and tablet devices. These courses provide an overview of prominent printing and digital publishing formats, such as variable data processing (VDP), portable document format (PDF), extensible hypertext markup language (XHTML), Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), electronic books (eBooks), and electronic publications (ePubs).

Page Layout Certificate

This certificate provides three courses, each focused on specific areas of publishing software. Students will develop a broad range of skills from logo vector conversion to developing large multi-page documents. Layout projects vary in scale and format, from simple flyers to complex brochures and booklets. But page layout doesn't end with paper and ink! Additional forms of publishing (such as web pages, PDFs, and other electronic publications) are also covered. Through these courses students will use a variety of software, including Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Indesign, IBook Author, Quark Xpress, and Adobe Acrobat Professional.

Digital Imaging Certificate

Digital ImagingThis certificate includes three courses focused on digitally capturing images and software-assisted image manipulation. To provide a basic understanding of pixel-based images, scanner and camera operation are covered, as well as resolution and color modes. Using Adobe Photoshop, students are introduced to selection techniques, layers, masks, paths, channels, and more! Advanced topics include blend modes, recording actions, layer styles, compositing, adjusting tonal range, batch processing, and color management. This in-depth coverage benefits all levels of proficiency, from new to experienced users.

Print Certificate

The Print Certificate incorporates four courses designed to gives students entry-level skills in a variety of printing and production methods. Prerequisites for this certificate include both Page Layout and Digital Imaging certificates. Topics covered in the Print Certificate will provide students with an understanding of different types of printing and planning a production workflow, while also engaging them in hands-on printing press operation experience. The knowledge from this certificate gives students a strong grasp of technical information vital to the workplace.
